Cole's Circle

I

Inness, George (1825-94)

Hudson River School painter deeply influenced by Thomas Cole's work; first exhibited at the National Academy of Design in 1844. Inness, like Cole, firmly believed that nature evidenced the glory of the divine, and his landscapes often have a spiritual significance, such as The Valley of the Shadow of Death (1867).
